Amazing Connections: Velcro Industries in the Community

Throughout our company, there are people doing incredible philanthropic and volunteer work. This is a hat tip to them and the programs they’ve helped bring to life.

Let’s start locally, with our neighbors at the University of New Hampshire. Together with the renowned non-profit, FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), we’ve created two new scholarships for students interested in pursuing STEM career paths. We’ll also be sponsoring FIRST events throughout the year. To get a taste of what this partnership entails, check out the recap from our first robotics competition.

VELCRO® Brand STEAM Education

Our partnership with UNH brings students and professionals together outside the classroom. For example, Sam Kirshman, one of our engineers here has mentored Mechanical Engineering students, Jeff Deming and Alex Roy. UNH recently published a great piece about their working relationship, which highlights the value of a one-on-one experience in the field.

Our work promoting educational opportunities extends beyond our New Hampshire community, too. Most notably with The Cambodian Children’s Fund. Julie and Will just returned from their trip to Cambodia where we cut the ribbons on CCF’s new school. You can read Julie’s account of the trip on our blog, as well as view her photos of the incredible community we are so proud to be a part of.

There is always more work to commend. Over the past few years, Velcro USA, Inc. employees have contributed over $500,000 to the United Way, participated in American Red Cross blood donation drives and donated toys and food to local groups. Other admirable projects include:

  • Supporting the Kids’ Café at the Salvation Army Center
  • Participating in the American Heart Association’s annual Heart Walk
  • Collecting funds for the American Cancer Society through its Daffodil Days campaign
  • Serving seniors nutritious meals at the New Horizons Soup Kitchen
  • Joining Day of Caring programs through the Granite United Way

While they are bound to be more we’ve missed in this round-up, a list so long is a testament to the wonderful work our colleagues do daily in the community. Stay tuned as we’ll regularly report back on these amazing connections.
